There are so many choices at Glenn Oaks where you can rest your head after a day of hiking, beach walking or gourmet dining.

  • The Archies-Tiny cabins big enough for a king sized bed, a cast iron fireplace and a deck on the front porch with comfortable chairs for lounging
  • The Lodge-Modernized, eco-friendly remake from the original 1960's lodge type accommodations, these have everything updated  from the lighting to the bathroom sinks. Walls are thin and your neighbors conversations can be heard. 
  • The Cottage-A one bedroom home with a gigantic deck, beamed ceilings, wood burning fireplace,a stainless steel stove, and rattan wing chairs. Very private!
  • The Redwood Grove Cabins- 5 cabins in various wooded settings away from the rest of the crowd. The Big Sur has a double shower and heated stone floors. Little Sur is a smaller version of it's bigger brother. 
  • The Sycamore- Newer, ultra-modern and private

Glenn Oaks Big Sur Romantic Getaway?

If this is a romantic getaway for a honeymoon an anniversary, or just unique time together, my recommendation is to book one of the cabins as far away from the rest of the guests that have also discovered this unique place.

Here you can enjoy a real wood fire and a few nights in the rugged outdoors with all the conveniences. If you don't need big, you might try Little Sur or one of the Archies. 

While there are almost unlimited things to do in Big Sur, remember that a few days of just lingering on your deck and maybe among the community firepits, might be the real relaxing vacation you were looking for.

For dinner, the Roadhouse Restaurant is a new place that is wildly popular and within walking distance from your room or cabin. For something very classy and expensive with a clifside view of the Pacific Ocean you might try Sierra Mar at The Post Ranch Inn.

Why Are There Chairs In The River ?

When you arrive at Glenn Oaks, ask about the river, and the chairs that have been placed on a tiny dirt island where there is a fork in the gently flowing river. Here you can sit with a favorite beverage, relax to the sounds of the forest and the gurgling of moving water,

If this dosen't relax you reasonably quick, it's time to plan a longer getaway here until you can fully absorb the majesty of what many call "Big Sur Magic"... but sometimes it does take a few days or even weeks if you're feeling uptight to let it soak in.

How Do I Find This Escapist Gem?

If you are traveling south from Monterey, watch for the sudden collection of buildings as you leave the forested section of the highway.

Glenn Oaks Big Sur is to your left.

Initially Glenn Oaks looks like a vintage motor lodge, but theere is much more than what you can see from the road. Don't be "putoff" by it's initial appearance.
